Newborn Infant with Cryptotia Treated with the EarWell Correction System
Cryptotia in my series is the least common of the infant ear deformities whereas in Asian populations, it is one of the most common. Cryptotia is characterized by the ear cartilage framework appearing burried beneath the skin with no apparent skin behind the ear. Molding therapy involves retracitng the ear out away from the skull followed by shaping the cartilage framework. I generally use the EarWell correction system in reverse order initially applying EarWell retainer tapes to forcefully retract the ear cartilage framework and expand the skin followed in 2 wks with the applicaton of the EarWell device to fully shape the cartilage.
